149. GW38: Season Done. 38 Weeks Complete.

Season Finale1 Jun 20269 min read

38 gameweeks. Done. Whether you finished at the top of the table or spent the final weeks hoping for a miracle, you stuck it out — and that counts for something. Here's how it all ended.

Congratulations. You Made It.

The season is done. 38 weeks are complete — and you should be proud of yourself for seeing it through. Whatever your final position, whatever that collapse looked like in December, you came back and you finished.

How did you do with an average of 41? Did you finish strong? Were you happy with where you landed in the mini-league?

I got 63 this week. The biggest mistake? Benching Watkins for Osula. If I'd just left Watkins in, that was the difference. But as you all know by now — every manager had their own form of roulette this final week.

38 gameweeks. You stuck it out. That is a big deal. Be proud of yourself.

GW38 — How It Played Out

Brighton offered no challenge to Man United — Bruno Fernandes saved a lot of us if he was your captain or vice captain. Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-1 but no clean sheet. Fulham beat Newcastle, so no points from Newcastle players. Liverpool drew 1-1 — a disaster if you had Thiago or any Brentford assets. Man City rested Haaland, so nothing there either.

Then Watkins had two goals and finished the season strong. Spurs delivered — Palhinha scored and they won. West Ham did what was needed, winning 3-0 with the players you expected to play actually playing. The problem with this final week was simple: very few things to play for made it almost impossible to pick the right players.

Man United and West Ham had the two highest-scoring games — both winning 3-0. West Ham needed the win to try and stay up. Castaños, Bowen and Wilson scored. They really looked like a Premier League team, even though they are now officially a Championship side.

In a way, even though it was the highest-scoring game, it was also the biggest disappointment — because Tottenham also won their match. West Ham's 3-0 meant nothing. They finished strong, but it wasn't good enough.

The most disappointing game? Chelsea lost 2-1 to Sunderland. Sunderland were the better team. Given Chelsea's resources and the fact that a win would have put them in Europe — that is a failure. Sunderland won, Brighton lost, and Sunderland took the European spot. Chelsea got nothing.

When Hume scored, it looked so easy. The goalkeeper situation at Chelsea needs addressing immediately.

Dorgu was the standout with 18 points — the top performer of the entire gameweek. Bruno Fernandes delivered again with 14. Watkins' two goals vindicated everyone who kept the faith.

A Weekend of Goodbyes

This wasn't just a gameweek — it was a weekend of transitions.

The big departures

Pep Guardiola has left Manchester City. Slot has left Liverpool. Salah is leaving. James Milner has retired. Iraola has left Bournemouth. Senesi has gone to Tottenham. Robertson has gone to Tottenham. Anthony Gordon has joined Newcastle.

James Milner deserves a proper send-off. He was the only player to appear in every FPL season since the game's creation in 2002/03. He is the third youngest and second oldest goal scorer in Premier League history. He has assisted 47 different players — the most of any player in the competition's history. 964 career games for club and country. 658 Premier League appearances — the all-time record. A proper legend.

Pep Guardiola had his 593rd and final game as Manchester City manager, making him the manager with the most games in the club's history. His average of 2.28 points per game across 379+ Premier League games is the highest of any manager with 20 or more matches in the competition. Since Michael Carrick took over Manchester United, his side earned the most points of any team — 36 points, with Man City second on 35.

Bruno Fernandes won Premier League Player of the Season — the first Manchester United player to win it since Nemanja Vidić in 2010/11. He also became the first player in PL history to assist 21 goals in a single season, and created 136 chances — the most by any player across Europe's big five leagues since Kevin De Bruyne hit the same number in 2019/20.

The Stats That Made Us Stop

  1. 01
Arsenal became the first side in Premier League history to neither concede a penalty nor receive a red card in a single campaign. Remarkable. Probably unrepeatable.
  2. 02
Crystal Palace won the Conference League — the second lowest placed side to win a major European trophy, after Spurs last year. The first English team to reach the final in their maiden European campaign since Alavés did it in 2001.
  3. 03
Liverpool's points tally dropped from 84 last season to 60 this season — a fall of 24, the biggest drop by any ever-present Premier League side across two consecutive campaigns.
  4. 04
Mo Salah surpassed Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's all-time top Premier League assist maker, reaching 93. He left on top.
  5. 05
Arsenal scored 19 goals from corners, Tottenham 18. People only notice set pieces when you're winning. Sorry, Arsenal fans.
  6. 06
Max Dowman became the youngest ever player to start a Premier League match at 16 years and 144 days.
  7. 07
Tottenham had just three home wins all season — joint fewest by a surviving side since Hull in 2008/09. If you were a Spurs home fan this year, you barely watched your team win.
  8. 08
Junior Kroupi scored 9 of 12 big chances in the Premier League — the best conversion rate of any player with 10+ big chances at 75%. That is a clinical striker.

The FPL Season in Numbers

Haaland finished as the top FPL scorer with 239 points — and somehow was never once named FPL Player of the Week all season despite being the highest scorer. Bruno Fernandes was second with 235. Worth noting: this was a lower total-point season than last year, so if your final tally looks lower than last season that is why — not just you.

Each of those 10 players was their club's top FPL points scorer this season.

Top GW38 score in the group: Wilson Ding (Phoenix FC) with 92 points — achieved via triple captain on Bruno Fernandes for 42 points. That is how you finish a season.

Top goalkeeper all season was Raya with 162 points.

38WKS2GO Mini-League — Final Standings

Your league champion

Arnold Midunga — FC Safi Kama Pamba wins the 38wks2go league with 2,399 points. Congratulations — an incredible season from start to finish. The interview is coming.

Arnold finished 37 points clear of second place. In a league this competitive, that is a comfortable and deserved margin.

Young Müller Baby and Jeremy Yego both finished the season rising for 11 consecutive weeks. James Durango made the best transfers of the final week, gaining 22 points from his moves.

And the Global FPL Winner

Erik Ibsen won FPL globally — the first Dane ever to win the competition — finishing with 2,582 points. And it was his first time playing the game. His sister got him into it. He is a 23-year-old medical student and an Everton fan who just went with it and enjoyed the process.

His biggest piece of advice: have fun. He says he would not have continued playing if he did not enjoy it.

That is the spirit this game is meant to be played in.

Until Next Season

That is a wrap. 38 gameweeks. Done. I hope you have had fun — I know I have. Enjoy your well-deserved break, enjoy the summer, and I will see you back here for GW1.
